The Anchor of Hope

This is the word I shared last weekend at our local Church. I pray it blesses you.

"I want to share 2 verses with you. They are from Heb 6:19-20

“ This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

In New Testament times, many people travelled by ship. When a large ship wished to come into harbour during a low tide, it was often unable to do so, because of precarious sandbars in the way. Nowadays we can dredge harbours, but it was not often possible then.

So the ship would have to wait, and ride out the storm. When this happened, they would send a man out into a smaller boat, complete with the ship’s anchor and chain. Somehow it was his incredible job to brave the storm himself, and row into the safety beyond the harbour walls As soon as he reached the harbour, he would drop the anchor. Even though the ship might be battered somewhat, everyone knew that as soon as the tide turned, they could pull themselves safely home. This brave hero was called the forerunner

It may be that today you are battling storms of unbelief and hopelessness. You are fearful over many things. But Jesus came to dwell among us, and then went out from us “through the veil” in order to ensure that we could one day be with Him. So just remember – In Jesus, your anchor is already home

When a physical diagnosis threatens to tear your family apart, remember
Your anchor is already home

When you feel like a spiritual wreck about to crash on the rocks, remember
Your anchor is already home

When your financial situation sends your anxiety and blood pressure levels sky high, remember - Your anchor is already home

When you cry in the night over your kids, remember - Your anchor is already home

And when Satan tries to tell you that your faith is pointless, that God does not love you, that you are the most useless of Christians and may as well give up right now, remember - Your anchor is already home

Jesus, our forerunner, has made it possible for you to have total faith and hope that He will bring you safely through this. Heb 4; 4 encourages us to “Hold on tight to the hope you profess”. The anchor is in place – just keep on holding on"
